DERMAPLANING

Dermaplaning is a gentle exfoliation method that removes the outer layer of dead skin and vellus hair (peach fuzz) to reveal smooth, radiant skin. Perfect alone or in combination with other treatments, dermaplaning increases the effectiveness of skin care products and treatments by allowing for deeper penetration into the skin.

This skin treatment is perfect for combatting dull, uneven skin tone and removing pesky peach fuzz. Using a specialised blade to gently exfoliate the top layers of the skin where dirt, small hairs and debris reside, we are able to instantly reveal fresher, smoother and glowing skin!

This can lead to the appearance of thicker, smoother, and faster growing hair as the hair follicles are unclogged and can grow without interruption.

How it works

Dermaplaning works by gently and safely gliding a specialised surgical blade at a 45° angle across the skin to exfoliate the skin’s surface. Our trained dermal experts will sweep the blade across the desired areas, to effectively exfoliate dead skin cells, remove fine hair and take away the very top congested layers of the skin. Removing this unwanted debris will reveal new, fresh skin layers, resulting in softer and more radiant looking skin.

Dermaplaning is suitable for all skin phototypes, treatments are quick with no downtime following and results are instant. We recommend ongoing treatments every 3-4 weeks as fine hair begins to regrow and  starts to show again.

What are the benefits of dermaplaning?

  • Removes facial hair or ‘peach fuzz’
  • Provides a smooth canvas for makeup
  • Increases circulation and fibroblast activity
How does derma planing work?

Dermaplaning uses a method of controlled scraping with a disposable sterile blade to gently remove the outer most layer of dead skin cells, oil, dirt and facial hair to expose the clear skin beneath. Roughly three weeks or 21 days worth of build up is removed.

What to expect from a dermaplaning treatment?

Skin will be cleansed, and a barrier oil applied. The blade is then gently scraped across the skin removing the dead skin cells and build up. Following this a hydrating or enzyme mask is applied and where applicable, the LED light therapy will begin. Moisturiser and SPF is then applied to protect the skin.

  • Why do we recommend LED Light Therapy?
LED light therapy will assist in soothing the skin and reducing irritation, while encouraging skin renewal. To learn more about LED light therapy and its benefits click HERE.

Following treatment, skin sensitivity to the sun and actives is increased. Always use a SPF and refrain from actives for at least 5 days. No excessive heat/strenuous exercise for 24 hours. Drink plenty of water.

How long till I see results?

Immediately after redness subsides. The days following treatment, you will notice glowing smooth skin.

How often can I have derma planing treatment?

Dermaplanning can be repeated as often as once every 4 weeks.

Am I suitable for dermaplaning?

Derma planning is great for those suffering from dull, dry and dehydrated skin or those wishing to reduce ‘peach fuzz’. It is suitable for most skin types.

Individuals with inflamed or irritated skin, sunburn or active/cystic acne should avoid dermaplaning until such time that their skin is clear or no longer active.

Contraindictions include:

  • Some hormonal imbalances that effect hair growth
  • Blood thinners (incl. high dosage aspirin)
  • Accutane or isotretinoin (within 6 months)
  • Retin A (within 5 days)
  • Open lesions or cold sores
  • Contagious skin disorders

It is important to discuss all health related issues or medication you may be taking to ensure safety and optimal results.

What are the possible side effects of dermaplaning?

Derma planning is a safe, low risk treatment, however, you can expect redness after treatment. This will subside within a few hours for most people. On the rare occasion, some individuals, particularly those new to exfoliation, may experience a mild break out of whiteheads. These will subside on their own within a few days.
