How does it work?

At Cosmetic Boutique we use a dermal pen for our skin-needling procedures. Unlike rollers, the dermal pen is a small wand that can be expertly controlled to allow for tailored treatments dependent on skin type, concern, and comfort levels.

The fine needles of the dermal pen create micro-injuries to stimulate the skin’s natural renewal process. When combined with actives, the dermal pen assists in getting those products deeper into the skin allowing for a more thorough and targeted treatment.

Microneedling works by gliding the device over the skin’s surface and using tiny needles to create small perforations or ‘micro-channels’ in the skin. These are essentially tiny wounds, which stimulate your body’s natural healing response and encourages your skin to make new, collagen-rich tissue.

These micro-channels also allow the active ingredients in your skincare productsto penetrate deeper into your skin, delivering even more powerful results.

For best results, we recommend an initial course of three treatments every 2-6 weeks to continue building your collagen and elastin.

What to expect!!

During the treatment, you will feel slight pressure and a prickling sensation as the device moves across the treatment area. Treatment is fast, so any discomfort is short-lived and tolerable. Warmth and slight tingling are normal.

After Treatment

• 24-48 hours: mild to moderate erythema, mild swelling
• 1-2 days: mild erythema, mild itchiness, tight/dry sensation
• 2-3 days: mild skin flaking, dry sensation
• 3-4 days: slight dryness
• 4-7 days: full recovery

Prep
2 weeks prior to treatment:

  • Avoid Laser Hair Removal, waxing, depilatory creams, and IPL treatments on the face

  • Avoid Cosmetic Grade Peels

  • Avoid Cosmetic Injectables

  • Avoid sun exposure, always wear SPF

For clients prone to hyperpigmentation, we advise you to prep the skin with a melanin inhibitor. This will help reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation after the treatment.
Fitzpatrick IV+ skin types must be prepped on a tyrosinase inhibitor and SPF for a minimum of 2 weeks prior to minimise post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

1 week prior to treatment:

  • Avoid exfoliators, acids, and any retinol or vitamin A-based products.

After care

24-48 Hours

Avoid heat induced activities, including:
• Steam rooms & saunas
• Swimming pools
• Excessive exercise and Don't pull or pick any loose skin after the treatment.

Day 1-3

Avoid active skincare ingredients. Use a gentle cleanser, hyaluronic acid, moisturiser and SPF.

Day 3+
Recommence active serums.

Day 7+

Recommence exfoliating skincare.

How do I book my treatment?

After your purchase online, our wonderful team will call you to make your booking:

To book your appointment simply call your preferred Cosmetic Boutique Australia location advising you are booking an online purchase and provide your order number. On the day of your booking, present a copy of your order email to your therapist either on your phone or a printed copy. If the purchase is a gift, email info@cosmeticboutique.com.au with the name of the person the gift has been purchased for to be sent a gift voucher.

What should I expect?

Once you arrive at the clinic, the therapist will clean your skin and then the treatment will begin. You will feel the slight vibration of the dermal pen as it is directed across the skin. You may experience mild stinging however due to the design of the dermal pen, discomfort should be minimal.
How soon will I see results?

Most people will have visible results after the first sessions, however the full benefits will be seen upon completion of your treatment plan.
How many sessions do I need?

We recommend four (4) sessions over the course of 16 – 24 weeks depending on your skin type. One average that is 1 treatment every 4-6 week.

Individuals combating deeper scar tissues, may require further treatments. By discussing your concerns, and desired outcomes with our therapists we can tailor the program for you, and give you a better indication of the number of sessions required.
Am I suitable?

Skin needling is suitable for most people and skin types. Those taking medications should discuss this during the consultation prior to treatment as certain medications (for high blood pressure, diabetes, heart) may not be compatible.

It is not suitable for women who are pregnant.

If unsure, please consult your doctor prior to treatment, and discuss any issues with the therapist.
Pre & Post Treatment

Pre treatment

We recommend minimising UV exposure prior to treatment and coming in makeup free. Makeup can be removed prior to treatment if this is not an option.

Post treatment

Following treatment we recommend clients:

  • minimise UV exposure,
  • pause the use of actives for a minimum of 5 days (such as AHA’s, BHA’s, Retinols, Vitamin C, Vitamin A etc.),
  • minimise activities that significantly warm the face (i.e saunas, strenuous exercise)
  • and do not shave the treatment area.
What are the possible side effects?

Side effects will vary based on the depth of your treatment, however typical side effects include:

  • sensitivity,
  • mild swelling,
  • tightness or flaking of the skin
  • bruising, and
  • redness.

These should all subside within 3 days of treatment although some may experience continued recovery for up to 7 days. Our therapists will provide you with information regarding the aftercare of your skin following treatment to encourage healing.
